Evangelism

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world James 1:27.

Teresa lacks food for her family and has been sick because she can't take her medicine without food.  Teresa is a hard worker and wants to learn to read.

Ann has a hole in her roof and doesn't have a mattress to sleep on.  She also lacks food.  Ann is 80 years old and still works in the fields.  She loves God and loves being a part of the widow's meeting.

Martina lacks food but is a fantastic gardener.  Since she has given her life back to God, she says she feels a peace in her circumstances.  She knows a little English and was in school up to class 8.  She wants to continue her education and start a vegetable stand.

Pastor Joseph Barasa Wabomba

Elizabeth is a hard worker.  She finds work wherever she can. She doesn't have enough food.  She's feeding 11 people and housing 9. She doesn't have any mattresses in her house.  Elizabeth is so compassionate and caring to her family.

Evangelism started with a widow's meeting and these four widows:  Teresa, Ann, Martina, and Elizabeth.

It has grown to 15-20 widows each week because of the discipleship by Pastor Joseph and the widows' testimonies to other widows in the village.

Difficulties widows face:

  • After a woman's husband dies, the husband's family takes everything from the widow (land, furniture, house, bed, bedding)

  • Widows aren't usually educated because the culture sees a woman as getting married and having children

  • It's difficult for widows to find work because they aren't educated and usually have a family to support

The needs of our widows:

  • food

  • school fees, clothes, shoes for their grandchildren

  • medical attention

  • mattresses

  • hygiene (soap, spraying of the house for bugs)
